Youtube has a plethora of tutorials to pretty much learn about anything. The best thing about Youtube is that its algorithm is really great. Even if you search for a few guitar tutorials, then the system would automatically start showing you similar videos.

Kids these days are already technology literate. I am pretty sure they know more about using a smartphone or an iPad than we do. You just have to show them that it is possible to learn guitar from this platform as well, and they will be the ones doing the rest of the work. Can You Take a Guitar on an Airplane?

If you love your guitar, then traveling with it can be a nightmare. While traveling through the air, the majority of guitarists are concerned with whether they can take their beloved guitar with them on the airplane or not.

Luckily you can. You can bring your guitar with you on a plane, but there are a few things you need to know before bringing it.

If you are from the United States and traveling within the country, then you actually have a legal right to take your guitar with you on the plane. Per the FAA Modernization and Reform Act of 2012, airlines have to let you take your guitar with you on the planes.

Here is the extract which permits you to take a musical instrument. Print it out before traveling via air!

Point B is something you need to be careful of. It says:

(B)“There is space for such stowage at the time the passenger boards the aircraft”

This means that there should be space in the aircraft before you board the plane. Now, if you are the last person to come on the plane, then there might be no space for your guitar! If that is the case, then you might need to plea a little to the flight attendants to let you keep the guitar with you.

Thus, it is important for you to have a good boarding position – or at least get on the plane as earliest as possible. There are quite a few ways for you to achieve this.

For example, if you are flying Southwest, then you can pay an additional fee to get into the priority queue and get into the plane before others. Some airlines have ‘gold’ packages. Which basically allows you to get a better seat, and boarding position on the plane.

A fun little tip is to associate yourself with an airline. These days, airlines reward customers based on their loyalty and have this loyalty point system. They tend to reward customers who regularly use their airlines (based on the number of travels), and thus reward them with perks. You usually need to connect your credit card with them or buy their own flight cards. It might seem like a hassle initially, but it is worth it.

Some Airline Policies To Consider:

Although by law you can take your guitar with you on the craft. However, some airlines have their own policies that you have to follow.

For example, United Airline’s Policy requires you to carry your guitar in a hard case rather than a gig bag. I do recommend getting a hard case for travel. Although some companies might not enforce this law on you, it is for the better good. Your guitar might get damaged if you only use a gig bag to transport it. It is best to use a hard case so that your instrument gets maximum protection.

Furthermore, it is also good to know which type of plane you are traveling. Naturally, the bigger the plane, the more space it would have for baggage. For this information, you can always ask the company itself while purchasing the ticket. Sometimes, on the ticket, there is the plane code on it as well. That code can help you to identify what kind of airplane you are flying in.

Packing Your Guitar

Now, before we head on to the airport with our rights, we need to pack our guitar correctly as well, if we don’t want to damage it. Packing is quite easy though. Just a few simple steps and you are okay to go.

  1. Loosen the strings: This would help your guitar to deal with the changing and unpredictable temperature and pressure that comes with any flight.
  2. Place some newspaper or packing material: Packing material would help to reduce the ’empty’ space in the guitar. Helping it to keep its form during different air pressures.
  3. Wrap the headstock, neck, and heel in fabric or packing paper: This would protect the sensitive areas of the guitar during air turbulence.
  4. Fill the case with paper: After placing the guitar in the case. It is always a good idea to fill it with newspaper, or packing material so that the guitar doesn’t move around in the case.
  5. Tag your case with your contact information: If you don’t have a sticky tag. Just write your name and contact information on a piece of paper, and then tape it with the case.

Which Guitar Case Should I Use?

Now, we have three options that we can use to hold our guitar:

  1. Hard Case.
  2. Gigbag.
  3. Flight Case.

Hard Case:

In my opinion, hard cases are the best storage device for your guitar. They provide the most protection for your guitar, and can also be used at home. Since some airlines require you to take a hard case, so it’s always best to have one hand.

GigBag:

In my opinion, the violin is one of the most beautiful instruments out there, and the kids love it. Although it could seem a little daunting to start off the instruments, that is only if you do not know where to begin with. That is why we have so many amazing books in the market to help you with your child to learn this amazing instrument. So, if you have recently bought a violin for your kid, then this article is for you. As in this read, we would talk about our favorite and the best violin books for kids.

Learning the Violin, Book One: Expanded Edition

Now, this is a book I would recommend for absolute beginners, for kids who just got into violins. This is an excellent book, not only for kids but for anyone who is just starting out the violin.

This book explains the instrument thoroughly. One thing I love about this book is that it takes one step at a time. It will not be teaching you two things at the same thing, it will teach you one, and then move on to the other.

The book starts off with short exercises, which are easy to read and understand, and then slowly progress towards a bit lengthy ones. It is targeted towards kids aged 5 to 9, but I would recommend this to anyone who has difficulty reading the notes.

I would highly recommend this book to buy for your child if he doesn’t have any prior musical experience, or is just starting out. This book would do him wonders.

The Violin Fun Book: for Young Students

This is one of the best books available in the market for kids to learn the violin. It is an extremely beginner-friendly book, that has big notations and pictures to attract the child.

Since this is a children’s violin book, thus it is made to attract them as well. The name of the songs in this book is funny (at least to kids), which makes them enjoy learning the song.

Since this book has big pictures, annotations, notes – it is not difficult for the child to read the book on his own as well. Although, I wouldn’t call this a lesson book, but more of a supplement book for a kid who already knows aa little about the violin.

My First Violin Fun Book: For ages 4 to 7

This is another great violin book to introduce it to your kid. Although this one is for very little kids, who just like to play the violin.

This book doesn’t go much in-depth with how to play the violin, but it would at least make your child familiar with the instrument, and basic stuff regarding it.

This book has other activities in it as well; such as coloring and drawing the violin. Therefore, if you are a parent whose child is showing interest in the violin, or you want your child to pick off this amazing instrument, then I would recommend this book.

Sassmannshaus, Kurt – Early Start on the Violin

This is a slightly advanced book for your kid. Although this can be the perfect first purchase for your kid as well, however, it is not that beginner-friendly as the previous books are.

The previous books had large shapes, notes, notations, and figures – while this one has a normal-sized one, as it is more focused on teaching the violin.

Early start on the violin has great beginner exercises, and colorful pictures to keep your child engaged as he or she is learning. However, I would suggest this book as the second book for your child.

The Big Book of Disney Songs: Violin 

The big book of Disney Songs is one of my favorite books. Although this is not your traditional how to play or learn the violin, it more focused on songs.

One of the great things about this book is that they have made the songs easier, for the kids to play them. Now, these songs might not be exactly the same as the Disney songs, but it will give your child a pretty fun experience.

I highly recommend this book if your child knows how to play the violin, and now he is looking for something ‘more’ to explore.

This is another excellent guitar if you are on a tight budget. By tight I mean around $200. This guitar is simply the left-handed version of their famous PF15.

Everything on this guitar is designed in a very nice fashion. The body of the guitar is composed of a sturdy top made of Sitka spruce combined with mahogany, which is also used on the back and sides. The neck of the guitar is also made of mahogany wood in order to balance the style of the guitar with the back and the arms, above all the entire body, is completed with a polished brush and comes only with the natural color of the instrument, but a little more reflective.

This guitar sounds exactly as their original PF15 does, which is great. It has a nice bright tone to it, which is kind of on a medium side of things. You can pretty much do anything with this guitar, as you can do with the original. Therefore, there are no complaints in the sound section.

This book as some great exercises which kids or even adults can enjoy themselves playing, which aids to learn the violin

The thing I really love about this book is that you get an online access of their site with it. Over-there, there are background music to play with the songs (exercises) which makes the learning experience significantly better.
